- The completion of the SuFaTS project marked a turning point for many families in the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement. With limited land and increasingly unpredictable weather patterns, refugee farmers were facing mounting challenges to provide food for their households. Through SuFaTS, SOLFA offered a lifeline—introducing innovative yet practical agricultural techniques that prioritized sustainability and resilience. Workshops and hands-on demonstrations empowered participants to maximize small plots through permaculture, composting, vertical farming, and water conservation methods. In doing so, the program not only addressed food insecurity but also encouraged income generation through surplus produce. The integration of home gardening into daily routines promoted self-sufficiency, especially among women and youth, who were trained to lead these solutions in their households and communities. The program's success lies not only in its technical training but also in its emphasis on environmental stewardship and grassroots ownership. By aligning with local knowledge and empowering beneficiaries to train others, SuFaTS created a ripple effect that continues to expand. The project also contributed significantly to climate adaptation strategies by promoting crops that thrive in dry, degraded soil. It taught participants how to view farming not just as survival but as a platform for innovation and independence. Through partnerships with networks like AL for Agribusiness, the project gained access to funding and broader expertise, ensuring continuity and expansion. SuFaTS stands as a testament to SOLFA’s vision: enabling communities to thrive through climate-smart solutions tailored to their realities.
